What Are Some Ideas Of Crafts That Babysitters Can Do With Kids?

In the summer I nanny a 10 year old boy. Most of the time he plays video games and stuff, but I try to do activities and crafts with him. And I have run out of ideas of things to do with him. Any ideas?

Age ten is tough to entertain, I have 3 kids and the oldest is a 12 year old boy.
Go to the Dollar store and check out things like water toys.
We found these great water cannons that look like a huge crayon.
We bought 12 because the kids on the street love it too.
They fill big buckets and pull them out to the walk in a wagon.
We set rules like the porch is off limits, you can’t squirt anyone who isn’t playing, play fair and expect if you do something to someone they can and will do it in return, like dumping a bucket over you.
Find or pick up some scrap wood- I gave kids wood, nails and hammers to play with over a week ago and they still are building everything they can imagine- just be sure you keep track of the nails and the hammer is only outside and for pounding nails.
    Even sticks will work.
Get boxes and tape and challenge him to build.
We;ve hever thinghing from go carts on skateboards and wagons to forts restaurants.
Cover the iside of a box with tin foil and make a solar sotve- check on line for directions- teach him a bit of science and have fun at the same time.
Get to the library and get some good books and set some time to read with him.
Our kids love books that we read aloud with lots of expression.
Take him on walks where he can ride something like a bike.
We walk our dog nightly and the number of kids that get permission to go with us is growing.
They ride ahead to the next corner sometimes whooping it up and getting cars to honk at them.
A tennis ball is great for a game of catch or hitting.
Set up targets either drawn on a box or things like plastic bottles and see who has the best aim.
Get him away from the video games and you will find a whole different kid.
We have video games and the kids do play, but timed and the less they play the more they find other things to enjoy, and are in a better mood.

You could visit http://www.quality-kids-crafts.com and see if there are any craft projects that spark his interest. Boys are sometimes not as excited about crafts as girls, but some are. You can find banners, cards, recycling crafts, puppets, etc. there.
Another suggestion would be to go to the library and get a kids cookbook, or a gross science experiment book (like making slime) or even a paper airplane book with lots of models, or even an origami book.
    I hope these suggestions help!

I nanny for an 11 year old. We play computer games together that’s fun.We also do LOTS of board games, trouble, chess, startego, risk, checkers, connect four. I also plan playdates. We read together, he has book reports for summer reading so we will take some snacks go under a shady tree and read and talk about the books. What else do we do… I schedule play dates once a week. We play catch outside and take hikes in the woods. Can you take him out? Mini golf, bowing those are fun thing to do.

you could make a kite together, then take it out and fly it.
he’s even old enough to build a model car….if he likes that kind of thing.
build a rocket that you can send up.
you could also start teaching him how to cook, bake cookies or something.
