Does anyone know of any craft projects or home decorating projects using fortune cookie fortunes?

I have so many fortunes from fortune cookies, and I want to use them in a craft project or in something to decorate my room with, but I can’t think of anything creative or exciting. Any ideas? Websites would be helpful, but plain old suggestions work just as well.

Does anyone have craft ideas using an assortment of items from various left over craft supplies?

I have a large tub of craft supplies from 13 years of Girl Scouting. We are doing our final camp out and I’d like to use up some of the supplies. I have yarn, floss, paints, foam pieces, fabric, popsicle sticks, glue, construction paper & probably some more odds ‘n ends. The girls are 16-18. I’m looking for some ideas to use these up. Thanks in advance!

Mothers Day Crafts-Create a Mothers Day Gift Wrap with a Gourmet Appeal Using Recycled Paper

Have you ever noticed some of the decorative grocery paper bags and thought, it’s too pretty to toss out, so why not repurpose this antiqued themed paper for Mothers Day gift wrapping?  Well, those were my thoughts when I was admiring the Traders Joes grocery paper bag I brought home from the store.  The printed design featured on the side of the bag has a timeless gourmet charm that resembles stamped patterns of vegetables, fruit, wine bottles, forks and a tea kettle.

This is the perfect project for Mothers Day gift wrapping.  “It is the balance of elegant meets recycled grocery paper”.

The supplies you will need for this project:

Decorative grocery paper bag – We choose to use a Trader Joes Grocery paper bag in an antiqued brown and barn red with a theme stamped  pattern.  Note if your gift box or package is medium or large, you will need to use more than one grocery bag. Fabric knit, approx. 12 inches in length – We choose Red to complement the colors in the paper. 1 Sheet of scrapbooking paper – We choose a chocolate brown with a shimmery metallic finish. 1 initial embellishment, adhesive backed for easy attachment. Craft scissors Scotch tape 1 name tag Fine writing pen or Sharpie pen – We choose the color white to use on chocolate brown paper.

Step 1 – Using your scissors, cut design pattern from grocery bag or bags depending on the size of your gift box or package.

Step 2 – Wrap and secure with scotch tape to package or box.

Step 3 – Wrap Fabric knit around the center of the package, securing it by tying a bow.  If working with a small gift, tie a small bow.  If the gift box or package is medium or larger, tie a larger bow, but not too big that the pattern of your paper won’t be visible.

Step 4 – Using your craft scissors cut a small section from your scrapbooking paper and fold in half creating  a small tag  that can be lifted up.  Craft scissors add a nice decorative trim to the edges of your card.

Step 5 – Next, attach the elegant initial embellishment to the front of the gift tag.  If it doesn’t already come with an adhesive on the back of it apply craft adhesive glue stick to it.

Step 6 – Address the gift tag, using a lighter colored pen on dark scrapbooking paper and a darker fine point pen on lighter paper.

Craft Projects Using Paper Flowers

In this article we will look at a few projects using paper flowers. Making a paper flower is so easy a small child can do it. Once you make one paper flower you can make another and another and then allow your imagination to lead you to creating a craft project.

Let us look at some paper flower projects to give you an idea of what you can make and then you can expand on these ideas and come up with some of your own as well.

Centerpieces are one of the most popular craft projects using flowers. You will need a paper flower making book and crepe paper as well as the list of supplies and tools recommended in the book. Once you have everything you need simply decide which flower(s) and color(s) you want to make. Then select a vase or container and arrange the flowers. You can add glitter to the flower petals, or add a small plastic craft piece to personalize the centerpiece. For example if the centerpiece is going to be used in your home a small welcome sign will give the centerpiece a nice finishing touch. If you want to make a centerpiece as a birthday gift then a small happy birthday sign or a cluster of tiny balloons will do the trick.

Using a flower without the stem makes a nice bow for a gift or it can be set on the table in front of the dinner setting if you are having a dinner party. Paper flowers also make great decorations when used as a strand of garland. This can be done for birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers, weddings or any other type of place where flowers are commonly found or where they will not look out of place.

A pencil/pen cup made out of container covered in crepe paper will look great with a few flowers attached to the sides. A memory box (shoe box) covered in crepe paper and decorated with stem-less flowers is not only a wonderful gift idea but a great way to store pictures or other important items such as journals or your children’s report cards anything that is special to you can be placed in this beautifully flower decorated treasure box.
The holidays are another perfect time for crafting flowers for centerpieces, dinner settings, decorations, gifts especially boxes filled with homemade treats!

You can make anything you want out of paper flowers, flowers are not just something you set on the dining room table anymore. They are work great for fundraisers and are perfect for weddings. Even if the bride and grooms budget is unlimited paper flowers are not only more beautiful than fresh ones, they will not wilt before the wedding and the couple can have any flower or color they want. There are unlimited possibilities when using paper flowers let your imagination lead you on a flowery journey!

Promote Brain Development by Using Arts and Crafts For Toddlers!

As adults, we understand what it means to appreciate art or to get our creative juices flowing, so to speak. Art makes us happy. Sometimes we learn something new from looking at or even creating a piece of artwork. Children can enjoy in just the same way as adults. They can appreciate when something is beautiful and they too can learn something new from art. Arts and crafts for toddlers is especially important in the brain development of children. Children learn abstract thinking skills through exploring arts and crafts. When children take a piece of modeling clay or paper, they use it to create something new. This helps to develop their imagination and creativity. Toddler art projects help children to see things in a new way and this helps them to see things outside of the box.

Arts and crafts for toddlers is also very important in the development of eye and hand coordination. They figure out how to use their hands to cut, draw, glue, etc… Fine motor skills are essential in the development of young children and art is a great way to get your child developing in that area. Children love it when you give them a piece of paper and a pair of scissors. It can keep them entertained for hours. When they get bored with that, give them another piece of paper and a glue stick. Then have them glue their cuttings on the paper to create a pretty picture. This works best when the cutting papers are multiple colors. Of course, cutting and gluing should be done with adult supervision especially for toddlers.

Art projects are a great way to allow your child to express themselves in a safe manner. They can draw a picture of something that may have recently been upsetting to them or express something that they are happy about as well. Arts and crafts for toddlers is also a fun way for children to explore the world around them. Although it is fun, it is also a great outlet for all of your toddler’s excess energy as well. We all know how much energy children have and how they get bored very easily. We don’t want them sitting in front of the TV all fo the time so we must give them something interesting to do.

Lastly, arts and crafts for toddlers is a great way for families to interact together and have fun. Family night can be used as a time to spend together creating something. Saturdays can be a great time for dad and toddler to build a bird house and decorate it. The great thing about art is that it can be almost anything! If your child uses their imagination and creates something new they will benefit whether it is physically, emotionally, intellectually, or socially.

Using Recycled Items in Your Crafts

It’s amazing all the different things that can be recycled and used in your crafts. You can use stamps, beautiful letters and old wrapping paper for collages. Old newspapers can be used for paper maché. Even broken plates and tiles can be use for a mosaic. The possibilities are endless.

One easy and fun way to get started is by recycling glass jars, canisters or bottles. It’s simple, but allows you to create something beautiful and useful for every day living.

In Paris, I use to salvage glass yogurt jars. They were perfect containers for votive candles. These have been a bit harder for me to find since moving to Los Angeles. However, thrift stores can be a great place to find little jars like these.

To decorate your glass jar or container, all you need is glue, like glossy Mod Podge, a cheap bristle brush (sold at Home Depot), a little water to moisten the brush from time to time, and some type of paper.

The paper can be tissue paper, Unryu (Indian or Chinese) handmade paper, or printed paper like you find at Michaels, Pearls or Blicks. You don’t need to get the most expensive kind. The paper just needs to be slightly transparent, containing visible fibers if possible, and of course, in colors that you enjoy.

Also, don’t get glossy paper as it could be difficult to glue.

To finish your jar, you can also get some raphia. There are lots of different colors available, so you shouldn’t have any trouble matching your paper. You can also use big holed beads of varying colors with the raphia as an added touch.

To start your project, cut your paper into squares and glue them onto the jar until it’s completely covered. You’ll need to put glue under the paper, and on top of the paper. This will keep air bubbles from getting trapped under the paper.

If you want, you can even glue the paper on the bottom of the jar, letting it dry upside down.

Don’t worry if the glue is a milky color. It’ll dry clear and act as a varnish over the paper. The glossiness of the glue will also give the paper some feeling of depth.

Once you’re done gluing, you’ll need to let the jar site for at least 24 hours. If the weather is wet, then you may need to let it sit for an extra day. It’ll look dry very soon, but it isn’t. It needs to dry under the paper too.

Once your jar is dry, you can knot some raphia around the neck of the jar. This will give it a finished look. If you like the Bohemian style, you can thread your beads onto the raphia, and knot the raphia at the ends to keep the beads in place.

When you’re all done, make sure you sign your piece on the bottom. Use a Sharpie or some other permanent ink maker.

Now you’re ready for a votive candle (or whatever else you’re putting in the jar or container). When you light it, just be careful of the raphia. Of course, always keep an eye on a burning candle.

As you can see, this is an easy way to decorate glass jars, canisters and bottles and do a little recycling at the same time. If you want some variations, you can also use dried flowers instead of the paper, or in addition to the paper.

Depending on the size and shape of your jar, you can use it for holding candies, keeping your jewelry or (for bottles) as a carafes or a vase for a single flower.

There are millions of ways to use your glass containers. And when you’re tired of crafting, go shopping at the flea market to search for more supplies. After all, isn’t that half the fun?

How to Make Vintage Crafts Using Vintage Fabrics

If you are looking for something different to make, and also want to recycle, then why not try some vintage crafts?… using vintage fabrics

Look at home through that trunk of old clothes, or bedspreads, or even tablecloths, and get that imagination going!

Clean the fabric gently, or have it dry cleaned if you prefer. Take apart the seams of the old clothes and then match the amount of fabric to a pattern you may have for a doll, stuffed animal, pillows or other accessories, your imagination is your limit!. If there is not enough for a project, then match it up with some other contrasting or similar fabrics..

This is a great way to display or show off some of that fabric from old clothes you remember on yourself, or even your grandma!.. If the material is delicate, but you want to still show it off, then make it into doll clothes for a “display doll”.. what a great way to remember old times… Vintage fabrics do not need to be reserved for quilts only! try other ideas!.

If you don’t have a trunk of old clothes or fabrics, then why not check the local antique stores, or at rummage and garage sales. You quite often find things like old chenille bed spreads that are worn in spots, and just end up in a corner somewhere, these make great soft stuffies for that special child, and with the bright colors from the 70‘s they look very cool and retro!

If you sell crafts at craft shows, this is a great way to advertise that you recycle, and there are some great patterned fabrics from years ago, that you just don’t see now. So, don’t let those old clothes disintegrate in some trunk somewhere, if you can’t wear them again, then turn them into something special!
