Mothers Day Crafts-Create a Mothers Day Gift Wrap with a Gourmet Appeal Using Recycled Paper

Have you ever noticed some of the decorative grocery paper bags and thought, it’s too pretty to toss out, so why not repurpose this antiqued themed paper for Mothers Day gift wrapping?  Well, those were my thoughts when I was admiring the Traders Joes grocery paper bag I brought home from the store.  The printed design featured on the side of the bag has a timeless gourmet charm that resembles stamped patterns of vegetables, fruit, wine bottles, forks and a tea kettle.

This is the perfect project for Mothers Day gift wrapping.  “It is the balance of elegant meets recycled grocery paper”.

The supplies you will need for this project:

Decorative grocery paper bag – We choose to use a Trader Joes Grocery paper bag in an antiqued brown and barn red with a theme stamped  pattern.  Note if your gift box or package is medium or large, you will need to use more than one grocery bag. Fabric knit, approx. 12 inches in length – We choose Red to complement the colors in the paper. 1 Sheet of scrapbooking paper – We choose a chocolate brown with a shimmery metallic finish. 1 initial embellishment, adhesive backed for easy attachment. Craft scissors Scotch tape 1 name tag Fine writing pen or Sharpie pen – We choose the color white to use on chocolate brown paper.

Step 1 – Using your scissors, cut design pattern from grocery bag or bags depending on the size of your gift box or package.

Step 2 – Wrap and secure with scotch tape to package or box.

Step 3 – Wrap Fabric knit around the center of the package, securing it by tying a bow.  If working with a small gift, tie a small bow.  If the gift box or package is medium or larger, tie a larger bow, but not too big that the pattern of your paper won’t be visible.

Step 4 – Using your craft scissors cut a small section from your scrapbooking paper and fold in half creating  a small tag  that can be lifted up.  Craft scissors add a nice decorative trim to the edges of your card.

Step 5 – Next, attach the elegant initial embellishment to the front of the gift tag.  If it doesn’t already come with an adhesive on the back of it apply craft adhesive glue stick to it.

Step 6 – Address the gift tag, using a lighter colored pen on dark scrapbooking paper and a darker fine point pen on lighter paper.

Creative and Simple Craft Ideas for Mother?s Day!

May is the time to honor and thank mothers, grandmothers, and just-like-a-mom women in your circle of family and friends for all that they do in raising children. We have prepared some special Mother’s Day craft gift ideas and fun Mother’s Day-inspired activities to share with that special someone.

Thumbprint Note Cards

Cut a piece of paper to desired size (5 inches by 4 inches is a nice size) and fold in half. Have children place thumb or finger in a stamp pad and make 5 or 6 thumb or fingerprints on front of card. Draw stems and leaves with a green crayon or marker. Extension: Make 5 or 6 cards, tie together with a ribbon, and give as Mother’s Day present.

Hugs and Kisses

Provide children each with a small wooden or cardboard box. Have them paint their box. After the box is dry, let them decorate the box with markers, stickers, sequins, glitter, etc. Next, have children shred some paper (use a variety of colors) and fill the box with it. Have them add some Hershey’s Kisses, Hugs, or other candy. Finally have children attach the following poem to the box and then give it to their Mom for Mother’s Day.

This is a very special box

That’s just for you from me.

It’s filled with hugs and kisses

So you’ll always think of me.

Decorative Soap

Cut a piece of felt, decorative paper, or fabric to fit around a bar of soap. Wrap the material around the soap and glue. Let dry. Decorate the top and sides of the bar of soap with small silk flowers, ribbon, lace, sequins, beads, etc.

Heart Pendant

Mix together one cup flour, one cup warm water, one-fourth cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, one teaspoon oil, and a few drops of food coloring. Roll out dough. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes. Poke a hole at the top of the heart big enough to thread yarn or ribbon through. Let dry. Paint heart. Spread a thin layer of glue on heart and sprinkle with glitter. Add sequins or small beads if desired. Thread the yarn or ribbon. Wrap in tissue paper or gift wrap.

Mother’s Day Party

Mother’s Day is a great reason to have a party with family and close friends. Get everyone together for a breakfast, picnic, brunch, garden party or barbecue. Include friends who are close to your mom if they are not celebrating with their own family, or combine the celebrations to honor all of the moms, grandmothers and just-like-a-mom women in your circle of family and friends.

Mother’s Day Activity Mom and I Booklet

Make a “Mom and I” booklet with your child. On the front cover, glue a picture of you and your child. On the next pages, help your child complete the following: Mom and I like to play __________. Mom and I like to eat __________. Mom and I like to go to __________. Mom and I like to read __________. Mom and I like to watch __________. Assemble the pages to make a booklet.

Mommy’s Little Helper

Mother’s Day is a great day for children to express how much they appreciate what Mom does for them. Encourage children to help Mom by doing things like dusting, folding laundry, watering plants, clearing the table, etc.

Whether the special woman in your life is your mom, grandmother, sister, or friend, I hope you’ll enjoy sharing our Mother’s Day inspired crafts and handmade Mother’s Day cards, games, and activities with that special someone.

Mother’s Day Craft Ideas

Whether you’re looking for simple crafts your kids can make for their grandmother on Mother’s Day or something more advanced you can make for your home or as Mother’s Day gifts for your family, you can find projects for every skill level to make the holiday more special. Read on for Mother’s Day crafts that appeal to all ages.

Craft Ideas for Mother’s Day:

Make a paper bag scrapbook.

If you’re short on time and craft supplies, look no further than your kitchen for inspiration. Brown paper bags for school lunches make a great miniature scrapbook kids can give to their mother or grandmother as Mother’s Day gifts. To make one, place paper bags on top of each other, alternating the ends, and fold the stack in half. Punch holes along the left side of the stack to make the spine. To finish it off, lace ribbon through the holes in a zigzag pattern, or tie individual bows in the holes. Decorate your scrapbook with pretty scrapbooking paper, fabric, stickers and other craft supplies, and then glue photos and mementos inside. The alternating pages of the scrapbook also allow you to store other photos in the “pockets” formed by the paper bags.

Create a handmade card.

With cardstock, paper and a few stamping tools, you can create a beautiful card that would make your mom proud. Fold cardstock crisply to the desired size and begin stamping and sketching. Use yarn to create looping daisies, scrap paper for grass and buttons for the flowers’ centers to make a textured card perfect for spring. Be sure to write a heartfelt note inside. Involve your kids in the card-making process so they can create fun cards for mom and grandma.

Craft a photo collage.

If your mom loves to display pictures of her family, homemade photo collages make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts. Reuse your card-making supplies and cut three or more pieces of colorful cardstock to a desired size. Punch holes in the top and bottom of each sheet. Next, glue school portraits and family photos to the sheets, adding stickers, buttons, scrapbooking paper and various craft supplies for a fun look. Laminate the sheets to protect them from dust and wear, and use either colored paper clips or durable cording to tie the cardstock together. Tie a loop of pretty ribbon to the top of your wall hanging so Mom can display it anywhere.

Stick to stylish magnets.

Let Mom hang kids’ artwork, photos, flyers and more on the fridge with colorful handmade magnets. To make some, buy clear glass gems, found with glass-crafting supplies, and cut photos, stickers, scraps of photo paper and old magazine ads to fit neatly behind the gems. Glue the desired shape onto a gem using a clear glue stick, making sure the image shows up clearly. Finish by attaching small, round magnets to the back of the gems with a hot glue gun. For a fun twist, spell the word “Mom” with magnets or create magnets with photos of her favorite flowers. Wrap the magnets in tissue paper and place them in a pretty box for a handmade gift she’s sure to love.

Mothers Day Crafts-Make your Own Mothers Day Gift Container to Store your Gift for Just Peanuts

Transform a metal peanut can in to an attractive Mothers Day gift by simply recycling.  Not only will you be giving a new life to what would normally be a “throw – away” can once the peanuts are done, you will also be creating a compact and fun storage gift giving idea for just peanuts.

A peanut can is the perfect size to store small gift items in.  What I love about recycling the peanut can is the beauty of what the can looks like once the wrapper is removed.  What I am referring to is the shimmering metallic finish on the outside and inside of the can (no need to gift wrap). Secondly it comes with a removable clear plastic lid that will serve another purpose in this project.  Supplies you will need:

1 Metal peanut can – For this project I choose a small peanut can 1 Small piece of felt – I choose a pink color 1 Ceramic wine bottle stopper with a cork base – I chose one in sage green and white that has a grape design painted on the top that I purchased at Michael’s craft store for $1.00 1 gift tag – I choose a pink and white pot a dot one to add contrast. 1 package of decorative self adhesive backed rhinestones – I choose sage green. Adhesive glue stick Dishwashing soap Black fine point writing pen Utility Knife Craft scissors

Step1 – Remove outside wrapper from peanut can and thoroughly wash the inside of the can using dishwashing soap. Dry can and set aside.

Step 2- Take your plastic lid and set it on top of your felt.  Using a writing pen trace around the base of lid creating a circle.  Next take your craft scissors and cut out the circle, repeating the step and cut out a second circle, but this time you will also be cutting out a smaller circle by tracing around the bottle stopper.  Once the circles are cut out,  fold into quarters then cut along the edges to create a scalloped edge which will resemble a flower. An alternative would be to use craft scissors that have a built in scalloped edge.

Step 3 – Take your ceramic wine bottle stopper and position it on to the top middle section of your plastic lid. Next using a pen draw a circle around the cork base.  Set bottle stopper aside and using your utility knife carefully cut out the traced circle from your plastic lid. Note: Be sure to cut the circle just a little bit smaller than what you traced.   This is so the wine bottle stopper will fit nicely  without falling through the lid opening.  Next pull cork base through the center opening of the felt circles allowing only the ceramic part of the bottle opener to show by pulling the top felt piece up, creating a flower.  You are now ready to attach your lid back on to the metal can.

Step 4 – Apply adhesive glue to the back of one of your cut out felt circles and apply it to the top of the plastic container.  Repeat the same step to your second felt circle and apply it to the top of the first piece of felt.

Step 5 – Using your fine point pen, address the gift tag writing the words “Happy Mothers Day”. Next, apply adhesive glue stick to the back of the gift tag and apply to the section of the can where the previous glue was applied to the original paper wrapper.   Very important, hold gift tag until adhesive sticks to metal container – approx. 1-2 minutes on each side.  If gift tag starts to come off, apply more adhesive and hold firmly in place until gift tag is secure.

Step 6 – Apply decorative adhesive backed rhinestone round the container to add sparkle.  Finally remove plastic lid and fill with your favorite gift items.  Be sure to check out my upcoming  Snowflake Silver Metallic Christmas Peanut Can.

Easy Mother’s Day Gifts Ideas for Children of All Ages

Another Mother’s Day has come around, giving us the chance to show our heartfelt appreciation for the special women in our lives. Mothers tend to be the center of our universe when we are young, as we depend on them for everything and they graciously provide for all of our physical and emotional need. But now that we are adults our relationships have changed. She’ll always be your mother, but now she’s also become a helper, a teacher, a friend and even a confidante. So we have even more reasons to be grateful and make this Mother’s Day as special as we possibly can.

And if you have children, it’s up to you to make sure that they have the help necessary to give mom the best gift ever. Kids love to make their mom happy on her special day, but sometimes it can be a little hard to get started. That’s why with these easy and cute ideas will be the perfect thing to thrill mom this Mother’s Day, and the kids will have fun providing her gift too!

<b>A Day on a Cruise Card</b>

Let’s face it, being a mom is hard work. That’s why practically every mom would like to take a relaxing cruise on the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, this may be a bit pricey for a child, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t create the sentiment. Have the child put together a “Cruise Photo Card” for mom, just make sure that there is an adult there to supervise the entire project. Give the child a piece of white construction paper and some crayons and have them draw their own luxury cruise liner. Make sure the ship includes all the usual luxury items, like a main deck, a pool deck, a first class deck, and so on. Draw the boat in the ocean, and then they can name the cruise ship something appropriate for mom. For example, make mom smile with the title of “Mom’s Dream Boat.” Then give them some pictures of family members to glue on various locations on the ship. For instance, you could stick a picture of dad on one of the cabin windows, put your dog on the main deck, and show mom relaxing by the pool. Then all you need is to help the child construct a nice note to mom on the picture relaying their happy wishes to her for Mother’s Day. And there you go. This can be a great craft project for children of all ages, as it doesn’t require too much skill. Now mom will have a wonderful keepsake to keep for years to come.

<b>”My Mom and Me” Teddy Bear Hug</b>

If the cruise ship idea isn’t your cup of tea, another option can be to create a teddy bear family. All you’ll need for this project will be two teddy bears (one small and one large), some ribbons, red construction paper, and some crayons or markers. Place the small bear next to the bigger bear, or in front of it, and then connect them with the ribbon. This symbolizes how mom protects and cares for them. You could even have them face each other. Then you can help (or at least supervise) as the child uses the construction paper to cut out the shape of a heart or a flower. On the construction paper shape have them write a loving message to their mom. Then, use some more ribbon to tie the message to the little bear, as if its giving the message to its bear mama. There is no mother whose heart won’t melt a little when she receives this gift from her little one. Remember, gifts built from scratch always mean more, especially when they are created by the children we love!

So there you go, with these easy to create Mother’s Day gifts, you can set the tone for the perfect day. Children don’t need to be great artists to melt mom’s heart, after all, neither of these ideas requires a lot of skill. And all they need is some basic items such as paper, crayons, and the timeless and adorable gift of a teddy bear! Remember, when mom pulls this gift out years later she’ll instantly feel the love she felt that Mother’s Day!

For amazing plush teddy bears of different sizes and colors, just like the ones you need for the second craft in the article, and many other fun and cuddly stuffed plush toys visit KCPlush.com. With so many choices, who knows what other great crafts you will come up with?

5 ethical gift ideas for Mothers Day

In the UK and Ireland, Mothers Day, originally known  as Mothering  Sunday, always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent which is exactly  three weeks prior to Easter Sunday. The tradition of taking an offering to your mother on this day has its roots firmly based on Christianity when back in the 16th century, it was common to visit the ‘mother church ‘of your community at least once a year. It was during this annual visit that children working away from there families as servants or apprentices, for example, were allowed home to visit their families and so be reunited with their mothers. The children often took a gift to their mother which was traditionally either a “mothering cake” made from fruit, or a bunch of flowers.

Interestingly, this act of visiting our mothers on Mothering Sunday has been retained and the ritual of taking her flowers, chocolates or another kind of more practical gift has remained.

Mothering Sunday to me has always been an important day since it gives me the opportunity to show my appreciation for all the support and kindness my own mother has given me through the year. For this reason, I want to share with you my thoughts on five ethical gift ideas for Mothers Day focussing on fair trade products.

5) Jute shopper bags: Since the demise of plastic bags, many people are using jute bags for shopping or carrying bulk items. Supermarkets encourage us to re-use our ‘bag for life’ by rewarding us with extra loyalty points and there is much publicity surrounding how the use of plastic bags is creating havoc with the environment in terms of wildlife and the littering of our stunning countryside. Apart from being incredibly durable and ethically produced from sustainable materials, there are some gorgeous fair trade jute shopping bags available online. I have come across purple jute shoppers embellished with sequins as well as natural jute shoppers screen printed with ethnic, arty designs.  There is a great selection of fair trade bags available and I would strongly recommend taking a peek.

4) Fair trade candles: Candles are available everywhere now from supermarkets to craft fairs. However, fair trade tealight candles are handmade using traditional candle making skills and are normally more individual in their design and creation compared to mainstream candles brought in the high street. For example, there are tealights inlaid with dried flowers set in ceramic containers shaped as flowers or hearts. There are many different perfumed candles too ranging from vanilla, lavender, rose, to cinnamon and alpine in different colours, shapes and sizes.

3) Fair trade shoulder bags: Every woman knows bags are available in all shapes and sizes in a variety of materials and styles for high street shops and other online outlets. What I would say about fair trade bags is that firstly they have been produced ethically and have also been handmade by indigenous people using their traditional skills and methods. Furthermore, there is a huge selection of colours, designs, shapes and styles from leather to suede and all are very modestly priced.

2) Silver jewellery: There is broad and diverse variety of elegant, high quality hand made 925 solid silver fair trade earrings, pendants, necklaces and bracelets. Good quality gemstones such as malachite, lapis lazuli, amber, moonstone rainbow and rose quartz are commonly used creating modern and contemporary pieces of jewellery making the perfect gift for a woman.

1) Notebook: There are some really very pretty notebooks in the fair trade products range some of which have fabric covers in turquoises, pinks, violets or blues. In most cases, the covers are embellished either with sequinned or embroidered flowers and make a truly feminine and ethical mothers day gift.  Once again, these are all handcrafted by people using traditional skills passed down through the generations.

Mothers Day Crafts For The Kids

Most Mothers day gifts from kids are likely to be made at home with mom or dad supervising or at school with a teacher’s help. While these hand made crafts are one of the most cherished possessions for any mother there are two things that might spoil the surprise, one that mom has to help make them and that adds up to a big mess of glue to wash out of your hair. Two; being that moms shouldn’t have to help the kids make presents for them to begin with, at least not on mother’s day. On any other holiday, crafts are a mom’s turf.

A pretty obvious solution to this would be for all dads to trade in their tools belts for a crafting kit and get down to helping the kids with their Mothers day crafts and while a lot of men will say that there are tons of things stopping them from doing this, the only real thing that prevents dads from crafting with the kids is the absence of crafting skills. A lot of men think that while they are handy around the house, they just don’t have what it takes to sprinkle glitter or glue ribbon on a piece of construction paper. Here is a list of easy crafting activities that dads can do with the kids to make mother’s day memorabilia that moms will cherish.

1. Certificate of excellence in Motherhood

This one is pretty simple, all you need to do is find some hard card and cut it in an A4 size (or whichever size your printer is set to). Find some nice certificate designs online and print it out after editing the title to read ‘The World’s Greatest Mom’. Instead of signing it or stamping it, have the kids make handprints. Instead of putting a card on mother’s day gifts, the kids can put the certificate on it. Dads can make a similar one and write “The Greatest Mother My Kids Could Ever Have’ and put it on your mothers day gift for your wife.

2. Mothers Day Cards

A really easy to make mothers day card is one featuring pictures of your kids. Moms go nuts over towels with handprints and mugs with baby pictures so these cards are a good option. All dad needs to do is help with the cutting and the scissors while the kids pick out their favorite pictures and choose a color theme.

3. Real Mother’s Day Gifts

Admittedly paper cut outs aren’t a real gift so dads will still need to help the kids with something to give mom on mothers day (and remember to buy a mothers day gift for the wife themselves). Since guys are more of a hardware home improvement project type, they can work with the kids to make stepping stones or paperweights from cement. They can be adorned with handprints, messages, birth dates etc. Moulds are easily available in stores at good prices.

These are some easy craft projects that dads can do with the kids while giving moms a craft free holiday but always remember that kids learn by your example so take a stroll down to the mall or browse online for mothers day gifts for your wife. For dads there is a wide selection of things out there, try avoiding any workout equipment and gardening tools. Go for something simple and sweet like fruit bouquets or mothers day gift baskets. They come in nice keepsake containers that you can use next year when you help the kids craft something new for mothers day gifts.

I’m the happy mother of three kids aged 8 years, 5 years and 18 months and as my kids are growing I’m facing new challenges in parenting everyday. I know I only get though the toughest mom challenges because of the great support group I have, my family and my friends and my wonderful neighborhood community of super moms. ?My?favorite?Mothers day gift baskets come from here.
