Summer is just around the corner and soon the kids will be out of school for their Summer vacations. You might be asking yourself, “How will I keep the kids busy?”
I think these craft ideas are great for bible school, girl scouts, cub scouts, daycare arts and crafts projects and even to keep your little ones entertained if you are a busy mom who works from home.
Photo Refrigerator Magnet
1 plastic lid from a potato chips canister
scraps of construction paper or scrapbooking paper
all-purpose white craft glue
scraps of ribbon, yarn, lace, rick-rack, buttons, beads, sequins
2″ piece of magnet
child safety scissors
pencil
mini-wallet size photo
Have the kids trace around the lid onto a piece of colored paper and cut out the round shape slightly inside the traced line. Glue the paper onto the lid making sure that about 1/8″ of the lid shows around the edges. (you want the lid to frame the paper shape). Take the mini-wallet sized photo and glue it in the center of the lid frame. Glue ribbon, yarn, lace or rick-rack around the edges of the lid and a piece of magnet on the back. Kids can also add additional embellishments such as buttons, beads and sequins if desired.
Walnut Shell Mouse Magnet
empty and clean walnut shell halves
2 tiny wiggle eyes
brown colored felt scraps
1 1/2″ brown chenille stem (pipe cleaner)
2 mm pink pom-pom
scrap of cardboard
1″ piece of magnet
all-purpose white craft glue
child safety scissors
Cut out two 1/4″ diameter circles from brown felt. Cut one piece of brown chenille stem to measure 1 1/2″ in length. Take a piece of scrap cardboard and trace around the walnut shell shape and cut just inside your traced line. Place the walnut shell down on the table or work surface with the ridged side up and the shell running vertically (like an oval egg shape). Glue pink pom-pom on front-top side of edge for the mouse nose. Take one of the felt circles and pinch the edges together to form an ear and glue one onto each side of the mouse head; glue the wiggle eyes onto the shell to form the mouse eyes. Let dry for 10 minutes. Flip over the mouse and glue the mouse tail (chenille stem) under the walnut shell leaving 1″ of it showing. Glue the cardboard shape to the under belly. Finally, glue your magnet onto the cardboard and let dry.
Index Cards Art-Work Magnets
Clear Contact Paper or Laminating Sheets
3 x 5 blank index cards (no printed lines)
markers, crayons, colored pencils, water paints, stickers, etc.
2″ piece of magnet
Have the kids draw and color on the blank index cards or have them write a poem or a story. When finished, you will want to seal the index card by using clear contact paper or self-stick laminating sheets (office supply store). Glue a magnet piece to the backside and you have an instant refrigerator magnet.
Recycled Game Piece Magnets
dominoes, playing cards, plastic coins, dice, miscellaneous game pieces, etc.
all-purpose white craft glue
magnets (round disk shaped ones work best)
Collect miscellaneous game pieces that are no longer needed and recycle them into refrigerator magnets. All you need to do is glue the magnet onto the back sides and let them dry for 30 minutes. If you are using paper bills (money) from games, you will first want to laminate them or cover them with clear contact paper before gluing the magnet onto the backs.

Super Simple Magnets: Fun and Easy-to-Make Crafts for Kids
If you are looking for an inexpensive craft project to make with children, you will want to try out this craft idea. Within a matter of 20 minutes, you can make several foam refrigerator magnets.
Appropiate Age Group: 4 and up
Here is what you will need:
Coloring books (featuring simple designs such as flowers, animals, cartoon characters, etc)
Child Safety Scissors
All Purpose White Tacky Glue
Wiggle Eyes
Beads, Buttons, Sequins, Feathers and other miscellaneous crafting trinkets
Foam Sheets (buy 1 of each different color to match your designs)
Magnets
Fine Tip Black Sharpie Marker
For the project that I made with my nephews, we selected a coloring book that had animal pictures in it for preschool aged children. You will want to cut out the pattern by cutting close (but not on) the outline shape.
We selected the following animals: frog, pig, monkey, cow, puppy and a lamb).
For the purpose of this project, I will refer to the cow refrigerator magnet that we made.
Select a sheet of foam to match the color of your animal, in this case, a white piece of foam. Trace around the pattern by placing the reverse side of the pattern down onto the foam sheet. Once you have it traced, use the scissors to cut the shape out by cutting on your traced line.
We then took a scrap piece of peach colored foam and made a nose for our cow and glued it into place. Above the nose, glue on 2 wiggle eyes. Take the black fine tip Sharpie marker and draw black ‘cow’ spots on the cows body and head. We also used the marker to color in the cows tail and hooves. To finish off your cow, glue a 2″ piece of magnet onto the back and let dry.
Try to be creative when adding accents to your magnets, you can use feathers, beads, buttons, sequins, charms, ribbons and other left-over small trinkets from other craft projects.

It is not always so easy to come up with simple, easy crafts ideas. Fortunately, with a little help many different kinds of crafts can be adjusted to become easy crafts. Always think of the most elementary items you can make with a craft and almost any craft will do.
Examples of crafts that can be used:
1. Making small objects with Fimo clay
Fimo clay can be used to make magnets, decorations and more. It is a non-toxic medium and easy to use.
2. Silk painted greeting cards
Silk painting is fun and you can make lots of small items that do not require too much expertise on your side. You can even get cool kits that have everything you need. This makes it very easy as you then do not have to buy a lot of supplies and equipment.
3. No sew fleece scarves
Once again this is a very good option if you are looking at simple easy crafts ideas. With very little supplies needed and with the basic skill of cutting and knotting your can come up with and amazing fleece scarf as a gift for a special person.
4. Beginners mosaics using seeds and beads
There is no need to get a lot of expensive supplies and equipment to try your hand at mosaics. You can use seed that you have colored, pretty beads and a pattern of your choice and make a delightful mosaic to use as a decoration or a gift.
5. Beading
Beading is another craft that really lends itself to simple, easy crafts ideas. Make a simple bangle with a variety of cheap beads and you have a lovely craft. This is also a craft that you will find many kits for, once again making it easier because you do not need to buy everything separate.
Think about these and other simple, easy crafts ideas and have a lovely holiday crafting session.
Make use of easy Fimo Clay Ideas or fun No Sew Fleece Crafts and make your own Christmas gifts.
