Beaded Christmas Ornaments – a Personalized Touch!

Because it was coming up to Christmas vacation I had some spare time, so I decided that it would be appropriate to make some unique Christmas ornaments. I started to make some original hand made Christmas ornaments that I would be pleased to hang on my Christmas tree.

Beaded Christmas ornaments are a creative and easy way to add a personal touch to your Christmas tree. Beaded Christmas ornaments are nice, and some of the vintage Christmas ornaments on sale recently are quite wonderful to look at, but for me the crucial matter in Christmas tree and other decorations is to be creative, and to create something that reflects my personality in some way.

For me, beaded Christmas ornaments achieve this.

Christmas decorations help you honor the things that matter you to most: your friends and family. Also, Christmas ornaments can produce a amusing craft activity for the everyone.

My brother is a pretty decent carpenter, or at least he was when he was at school, so I also decided to try a wooden Christmas decoration, with a little help! When I was done, it looked reasonable.

The earliest unique Christmas ornament I ever had was hand made. It was a wonderful pewter photo frame hanging from a silver hook. I was very impressed by the way it hung on the Christmas tree. It was a labor of love from my mom, after all, and I like to always display it to recall my love for her.

Whether you prefer beaded Christmas ornaments, wooden handmade Christmas ornaments, or something from a store, don’t overlook utilizing personalization into your Christmas ornaments this year.

You may be surprised by how greatly pesonalized Christmas ornaments add to your Christmas festivities!

My sister creates ornaments out of common household items. She is great with arty things, and finds a lot of simple ways to develop ornamental items of things that would otherwise be thrown out. You could utilize tin foil, papier mache, glitter, tinsel, crepe paper, and popsicle sticks. They’re all well suited to designing beaded Christmas ornaments out of. You could even bake some little cookie treats, or homemade chocolates, wrap them creatively, with names written on them, and hang them on the Christmas tree.

With some color and a lot of imagination, you can develop lovely personalized Christmas ornaments that are perfect to be given as personalized Christmas gifts.

For hand made Christmas ornaments or handcrafted Christmas ornaments, you can’t go past Your Christmas Gift Idea for beaded Christmas ornaments – all with a personalized touch!

Halloween Crafts For Adults – Let Your Imagination Go Wild!

A fun activity during Halloween is to decorate your home with hand made art and craft decorations. With a little imagination, one can make wonderful decorations to beautify the house and give it that festive look during Halloween. It is not necessary to be an expert at craft making, but a little imagination and ingenuity will go a long way to succeed in this project. A quick search on the Internet for ideas on homemade decorations will speed up your imaginative powers. You can come up with some creepy looking decorations by making use of simple household items. Most often, people like to transform their homes into haunted houses.

The yard is the best place to start with Halloween decorations. You can turn it into a creepy cemetery. You can give it a ghoulish appearance by putting ‘tombstones’ all around it. These can be simple plywood cut out into half- spheres. Attach some nails to the bottom, or push them down into the ground so that they stand up. You can paint them black and put some scary writings on them. The lighting in the yard can also be adjusted to throw eerie shadows over the yard. A few ‘ghosts’ made up of white sheets tied on to bushes will do the trick. Balloon Ghosts in white with attached bells can be left to float in the breeze. Their haunting chimes may scare even the strongest hearted person!

Halloween Crafts for the indoors can be made easily. One way to get a spooky effect in the house is to drape a fine white cloth, artistically painted with a ghost face, on the windowpane. Bats, artificial cobwebs and witch cutouts can be put up on the walls or hung from the ceiling to complete the creepy effect.

Many of these crafts can be made by kids too. However, if there is a need to use power tools for creating them, it is best left to the adults to do the job. Children can be involved to do simple things like painting or gluing on glitter, beads and sequins. This can be a fun activity done together to create something unique.

Your creativity is limited only to your imagination. Use your imagination and creativity while putting together Halloween crafts. As adults, your creations will be much neater since you are now agile while using your hands. Let the kids participate as well. There is nothing better than having a family activity to bring everyone closer! Have fun and enjoy your time with the family during Halloween.

Basic Instructions for Beginning Crochet

Crochet is a popular craft around the world. For thousands of years, people have used the art of crochet to create lace and fabrics to use on their garments and to sell to others. Crocheted items were a sign of wealth and prestige.

With the age of the industrial revolution came the mass production of crocheted materials and fabrics, making owning them affordable for anyone, not just the wealthy. As such, crocheted garments became more and more popular worldwide.

These days, crochet is the hobby and craft of many people. There are lots of different arts and crafts as well as, clothing, garments and household items that can be created by means of crochet. Crochet is so easy to learn; practically anyone can do it, making it easy to learn a new skill. Advances in yarn and fiber making technology have provided new and interesting materials for crochet and other needle crafts.

So, since you’re obviously interested in what it takes to start crocheting as a hobby, here are some basic initial steps to help you get going with learning to crochet.

Get Your Supplies Together. You’ll simply need a crochet hook, yarn, a pair of scissors and a large eye needle.

Properly Holding the Crochet Hook. Hold your needle in whichever hand you use to write with. Create a simple slip knot and put it over the end of the hook.

Start Making a Continuous Stitch. Hook the yarn and bring it to the top of the hook and pull through the slip knot. Continue making this chain.

Work Your Way Up the Chain. Move up the chain allowing the first chain stitch to knot on the hook. This allows the yarn to stay in place and not loosen. It is generally a good idea to make this first knot tight rather than loose.

Make Two Loops. Insert your crochet hook into the hole of the next chain stitch and slide the passing yarn through its center.

Bring the Yarn Back. Bring your yarn back on the hook from back to front and slide your knot in the center of the loops which you have already created on the crochet hook.

Make Some Rows. From your second yarn loop, make another single chain stitch and make a counter-clockwise loop. Start again and create the same loops as the previous stitches. Continue this basic crochet technique until you have a swatch of fabric. Once you have completed a swatch of fabric, it is time to remove it from your ball of yarn. Cut it with about a 6″ tail left at the end.

Fasten to Prevent Unraveling. Bring your tail of yarn back through the last stitch to fasten it and then cut the excess.

By using these easy tips and steps, you can achieve your goal of learning to crochet with ease. You’ll be able to start and complete your first crochet project and feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Just as with any new skill, you’ll need to find the proper supplies, materials and instruction before you begin, but with time and patience you’ll become skilled at the art of crochet.

How To Make Eco-friendly Paper-based Crafts

It’s easy to make eco-friendly crafts by reusing everyday materials. Recycling household items and turning them into artistic and imaginative crafts helps keep waste out of landfills, and is a great activity for making one-of-a-kind crafts. Here are some great ideas for making eco-friendly crafts.

Reusing materials

There are endless possibilities when reusing products in craft projects. Materials that are reused are eco-friendly and usually free! Get creative in searching for items around your house that can be recycled into an eco-friendly craft project. A few ideas for reusable materials commonly found around the home are:

glossy magazines
pages from old books
postcards
photographs
maps
tissue boxes
catalogues
menus
advertisements
foil wrap
old compact discs
newspapers

These materials and more can be used for a myriad of different projects. A few eco-friendly craft ideas are:

Decorate greeting cards using recycled materials
Personalize greeting cards by affixing reused materials found around your house. Get creative, you can use ideas from the list of recycled items above, or even incorporate 3D objects such as colourful bottle caps and hardware.

Turn old CD cases into magnetic shadowbox frames
Fill a clear CD case with colourful recycled materials such as photos, labels, bits of yarn, metal scraps, or any other items you can find. Close the case, and glue shut if necessary. Glue a magnet strip to the back of the case and your creation can now be displayed on the fridge.

Make wall hangings from old paper
Cut up an assortment of old paper products into a theme of shapes like trees, flowers or butterflies, and arrange them on a painted cardboard backing. Tissue boxes are great for finding artistic designs on durable paper. Use eco-friendly glue to affix your composition, then use an old frame (perhaps from the thrift store or by attaching wood pieces together from the yard) to hang on your wall. A wonderful creation using only recycled materials.

Wrap and tag gifts with reusable materials
You can reuse almost any thin type of paper to wrap gifts in such as old maps, magazine pages, and of course the funnies section of the newspaper. Take eco-friendly gift wrapping a step further by decorating your gift using old yard or string as ribbon. You can also craft a unique gift tag by cutting a square of cardboard from a cereal box, punching a hole through it, covering the printed side with paper and a message and affixing it to your gift through the recycled ribbon.

Make a photo/storage/gift box by decorating a shoebox
Instead of purchasing a storage box to hold your photos and other memorabilia, you can customize your own by decorating a shoebox. Start the project by either cutting clear shapes out or tearing apart various paper products for a more abstract look. Then proceed to collage the pieces onto the box using an eco-friendly glue or papier-mâché. Once completed, you can even spread a thin layer of glue over the finished product to give your box a glossy, varnished finish that also helps to preserve the paper.

Kids Crafts Ideas on a Budget

We all love crafts! They are a great way for kids to learn fine motor skills, and express themselves creatively, but being crafty can put a strain on your pocketbook at times. Going to the store to buy supplies for each and every craft project, just isn’t practical. Which is why, it’s important to learn how to come up with kids craft ideas on a budget. Consider using items and supplies that you already have on hand, for fun and simple impromptu projects.

There are so many items that often get overlooked when it comes to crafting. Think back to your own childhood. The days of toilet paper roll projects and egg cartons, should come rolling back. Remember how fun it was to create something beautiful out of something so plain? Help your kids relieve that same joy and pride with these simple tips and craft projects.

Recycle and Re-Use

Teaching your kids about recycling is a really good life lesson, so why not integrate craft time and science by re-using common household items? Paper bags, egg cartons and other goodies get a second life when they are forever treasured in the form of a craft project. Encourage your kids to come up with other household items that can be used for craft projects, you may be surprised at the things that they come up with!

Here are just a few of the materials that you can recycle, discover, or re-use for your own craft projects:

-Egg Cartons

-Grocery Bags (paper or plastic)

-Cardboard inserts from packaging and boxes

-CD’s

-Old denim or fabric swatches

-T-shirts that no longer fit

-Used birthday cards or bags

-Wrapping paper

-Toilet paper and paper towel rolls

-Plastic soda bottles

-Cans (use caution with sharp edges)

-Things found in nature: A rock, leaves, sticks, etc.

Gravel Art

Here is a great little project that uses items that you should have lying around! Enjoy!

Materials Needed:

-Large Cardboard Box

-Small pieces of gravel (You will need quite a bit)

-String or Yarn

-Pencil

-Simple Coloring Book or personal drawing

-White glue in squeeze bottle

-Scissors

-Crayons (optional)

Instructions

1. Wash and rinse the gravel in a kitchen strainer. Spread out on towels to dry.

2. On your cardboard, use the pencil to make an outline of a simple drawing.

3. With the glue, trace over the outline.

4. Press string or yard onto the glue lines, cutting where necessary to form corners and angles.

5. Glue gravel onto the picture filling the spaces. You can use all one color, or use different colors for different areas.

6. If you wish to have a background, use crayons to draw and color one in.

Use Your Imagination

Once you get the hang of coming up with kids craft ideas, you will never go back to the store bought kits. There is so much more creativity and freedom that goes along with recycling and re-using common household items.
