How To Choose The Best Baby Gift Basket

Are you planning a baby shower sometime in the near future? Whether it is for you, a family member or a friend, you should make sure you choose some baby gift baskets. Hold on, you shouldn’t choose just any one of them, you should choose the best baby gift baskets. What exactly would the best ones be? As you are reading this article, we are going to answer your question.

First of all, you could either make the basket or you could purchase it. Whatever you do, you should make sure it is something that is unique. When you purchase one from the local store, then you may end up getting the same one that someone else has gotten. With that said, we believe you should look on the Internet and get one. Chances are, your basket is going to be unique.

There are many things you could give as a gift for a baby. You could include some bath toys with bath soap, or you could include toys in the new baby gift basket. You may also get a case that is full of baby clothes. However, first, you need to make sure it is a boy or a girl. Remember, you are not one hundred percent sure, so you may want to hold on to that receipt in case you buy a lot of dresses and the baby turns out to be a boy.

The main importance of a baby gift basket is to make sure that the basket contains items that are going to be useful to the recipient. For a newborn baby gift basket, you might want to search for one that includes items such a mobile, changing mat, bottles, teethers, and rattles. You can also include things like CD’s with nursery rhymes, bibs, spoons, infant cups, and pacifiers. You can even get baby gift baskets which are made with furniture such as bassinets and cribs! Whatever you choose, just make sure that the basket’s contents suit the baby and its parents!

Great Gifts For Kids: Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are great way to give themed gifts to kids and teens. You can figure out a wide range of options to give them something that they will like. At the same time you have ultimate control over how much you spend. Choosing a theme allows you to purchase items related to your theme from a variety of locations, and you can even include a gift card as part of the basket if you would like. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

The Basket.

The perfect place to start with a gift basket is the basket itself. Many people go with a basic wicker basket, but if you choose another option it is likely to have a use later on. You can choose a square basket so it can easily be placed on a shelf with items in it, you can choose a small tote for the toys to be stored on (to make it really cute and open wrap it with cellophane with the lid on the bottom), or choose another container that will be used. The container can be a gift in itself, like a tool apron, totebag or hat.

Filling:

Little Kids.

Young kids are often easy to buy for. Get your basket, tote, or tin and fill it part way with “grass” or shredded paper. You can also place a small blanket in there on the bottom to hold the items up. Consider cars, plastic animals, bath toys, and balls for themed gifts for boys. Girls will like dolls, dress up items, and age appropriate jewelry. You can also do mixes of items. Consider a small stuffed toy, color crayons, a coloring book, another book option, and a small toy. You can choose items related to a theme, like “baseball” or “kittens”, or a favorite movie or character. No matter what you choose, make sure that the items you choose are safe for little ones.

Bigger Kids.

As the kids grow it may be harder to find inexpensive gifts that will make great gift baskets. Choose sports related items, a “farm” such as an ant farm, tadpole pond, or other kit with small live critters, or outdoor toys for the boys. Inflatables usually fit into a gift basket (as long as you don’t blow them up first). Girls will enjoy make up (even if it is pretend), nail polish, and things that will make them feel grown up. You can also do a craft basket that is likely to be a hit for both girls and boys. Or go with a goodies basket that has candy, cocoa, and other good stuff for the winter time. No matter theme you choose, start shopping early-any time you spot an inexpensive item that will work for your basket, purchase it and put it aside…when it is time to assemble your basket, you will have plenty of items on hand.

Teens.

As your child grows it gets harder and harder to satisfy them with gifts. Things are no longer simple. A handful of inexpensive toys usually isn’t going to cut it. Now you have to think bigger while thinking little. Fear not, you can figure out your budget and fill your basket that way. Consider movie lovers baskets with a movie or two and a gift card to the theater. If you want to add some special things pick out a poster from their favorite movie or aim for a small movie watcher memento. You can also do music lovers with CD’s, earbuds, music gift certificates and more. Coffee could also be a good one (if your teenager enjoys coffee). Fill a pair of mugs with tasty treats and offer a wide range of coffee options to them, including a gift card to a favorite coffee spot.

Often times the key to an excellent gift basket is to think outside the box. Start with a unique “basket” that will make a great container and will still have a use after the present has been opened. Add in a little stuffing to fill the basket. Then choose items that the receiver will like. Have fun with it and try to tailor it to the person you are giving it to.

Homemade Gift Idea – Melt and Pour Soapmaking

Making homemade soap as gifts can be pretty easy and a lot of fun. Homemade soap bars are great gift ideas because you can also whip up pretty large and attractive batches of them in a day or two and satisfy your entire holiday gift list. I made these as gifts for the holidays a few years back and some of the recipients were sincerely unsure whether these were purchased at a boutique or if I had actually made them.

The process to making these gifts is quite simple. Simply melt the soap base for a few minutes in the microwave, add the natural scents and exfoliants, pour them into molds and let them cool. That’s it! Creating unique names and gift labels can add to the creativity and presentation of these gift to make them even more memorable. Soapmaking purists might use a more difficult process that requires the use of lye and therefore there is a safety issue, but I found that the melt and pour soap variety as gifts can be just as elegant, much easier and safer, and creativity can be involved in every step of the process.

Soap Base…

Brambleberry.com can be your one-stop shop for all the supplies. I have had a lot of success, and have been very happy with their site and products. They specialize in everything that is soapmaking, from soap base and molds, to exfoliant and essential oil ingredients, to even boxes and labels. You can get an olive oil soap base (as well as some of the other ingredients) at Michael’s, or other craft store if you can’t wait for the shipping, but brambleberry.com has so many interesting and quality choices of soap bases that it would be a shame not to use them. I have used their aloe vera base, their creamy and dreamy goats milk base, shea butter, organic clear, a honey base and they even have shaving base, that would make a homemade gift idea that is more accessible for guys.

Ingredients…

As soon as your base is melted, you can add your ingredients. Now there are far too many options to mention here but I will mention a few. As far has scents, Brambleberry carries an enormous variety of essential oils and other types of scents. Again, you can get a few of these at Michael’s, or better yet your local health food store, Whole Foods or grocery co-op. They tend to be a bit pricey depending on the scent, that is why Brambleberry carries cheaper options like extracts and fragrance oils. Essential oils, though expensive, have a stronger, purer scent than any of the other types of scents, so if you are making large batches I would recommend getting a few of the basics. The ones I’d recommend as essential oils are a nice soothing lavender, a citrus oil like bergamot which is a great uplifting, “wake-up” scent, and maybe a rosemary, eucalyptus, or peppermint. You can get a essential oil sampler kit from Brambleberry. They also carry a wide variety of exfoliants. My personal favorites are their shredded loofah and pumice. You can also be creative and use oatmeal, (which a lot of people combine with honey) a light exfoliant like bamboo extract, and walnut seeds, or even cornstarch. You can also look in your kitchen for ingredients like cinnamon and coffee grounds. You can find soap recipes to start out with at teachsoap.com. They also have a detailed tutorial on melt and pour soap making. You can use dyes and colorants, but I have found that once you add the other ingredients, the bars take on an already attractive, and natural looking character.

A few tips on scenting…

The scents listed here are pretty universally enjoyed by men and women alike. I would keep the scents on the subtle side, and stay away from the overly floral scents unless of course you know that the person receiving the gift will enjoy it. When experimenting with scent combinations your smelling sense will often soon become overloaded, making it difficult to sample each smell. A tip that a local soapmaker once told me is to keep coffee grounds nearby, and smell them to sort of cleanse your olfactory palate between batches. Coffee grounds, by the way, are a great ingredient to include in a kitchen soap as it tends to remove or at least disguise strong smells. This is great for when you have chopped a lot of onions for instance.

Molds…

Brambleberry carries carries a wide variety of soap molds. You might also find molds at your local craft store or Michael’s. I personally use just a standard rectangular soap mold I got from Michael’s. Again, I think that the soap ingredients make the bars attractive enough, and have found that unusual shapes might just make them look chaotic and busy.

Here is a video tutorial on the complete melt and pour soapmaking process.

Presentation…

Yes, brambleberry.com also carries gift boxes for homemade soap. If you use these sliding gift boxes, make sure your soap molds are rectangular and small enough to fit. They also carry natural-looking gift bags for homemade soap. These gift boxes are excellent for applying your own personalized gift labels that you can make from Avery’s full sheet labels that you can get from any office supply store. It was fun for me to come up with an overall design and unique names like “lavender dreamtime” or “sunny citrus”.If that is too much work for you, wrap them in some raffia ribbon from your local craft shop, and tie a little gift label to it.

Five Easy Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas

Homemade Christmas gift ideas don’t need to be complicated in order to work. They don’t have to look sub-standard or tacky either…you know, homemade!

It’s best to stick to a theme and give everyone the same type of gift. That way you can buy in all your ingredients or supplies and set up a bit of a production line.

I tend to stick to items I can prepare in my own kitchen as that’s where my strengths lie. You may be interested in craft or woodwork. Go with your established hobbies and skills. This isn’t a time to be too adventurous or you’ll find it hard to enjoy.

My theme this year is gourmet cooking supplies. I love to cook and with the resurgence in home cooking in the past few years, I know I’m not alone.

It can be hard to find really good quality ingredients without going to specialty stores, and who can afford that?

A better option is to make your own. So why not make some for everyone else too? They really are inexpensive Christmas gifts to make.

Here’s my top five to make this year:

Flavored olive oil:-Buy the best quality olive oil you can and infuse it with a variety of herbs and spices. These always make popular Christmas gifts as many people never think to buy themselves a treat like this.

Flavored vinegar:- Very quick and simple to make. Again, just use a variety of fresh herbs and your favorite spices for a ready made marinade or salad dressing.

Hot Curry Seasoning:- Take care when you mix this up that you don’t get any in your eyes – it’s hot!! It can look fantastic presented in a little wooden box if you can find any at your craft shop.

Dried Herb Seasoning:- This is always the first to run out in my kitchen, I never seem to make up enough. It’s excellent to rub into meat before cooking, to sprinkle on and in casseroles, wherever you’d like to add flavor.

Flavored Sugar:- These make easy homemade Christmas gift ideas and are great sprinkled on pancakes and used in cooking. The sugar adds a subtle fragrance and flavor that is delicious.

All of these have been chosen for their relative simplicity and their keeping properties.

Once you’ve made them up, take care in how you present them.

Spend some time going through the storage jars on offer in your supermarket or craft supply shop. You’re looking for smallish, stylish bottles that you can dress up.

To decorate your bottles and jars use some or all of the following ideas:

– Labels with your own logo and name. – Colored wax seals. – Ribbons of raffia, taffeta or silk. – Straw lined or padded boxes – Add a recipe card.

Always make extra to cover those occasions when you need to come up with last minute gift ideas.

Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas

Christmas is a special time of year and homemade Christmas gift ideas can add to the excitement of the holiday season.  Christmas shopping and gift decisions can make the season a lot less jolly, but making the gifts yourself give can make Christmas more personal and memorable. It can also help you save money too!  Getting the children involved with making the gifts can start a cherished yearly tradition.

Here is some money saving homemade Christmas gift ideas to help you show the special people in your life how much you care
:

Christmas Candles: purchase plain pillar candles (at least 3” wide) at a discount store and dress them up with ribbon, plastic berries, or gift tags.  You can also use fabric or Christmas pushpins.  Another idea is to purchase a small votive candle, a small votive holder and a wide glass vase.  Partially fill the vase with Christmas decorations – plastic holly, fake poinsettias, red/green/gold glass beads, etc. – and then place the votive in the small holder in the bottom.  You can find all kinds of decorations that will work – just use your imagination. You can spend less than $20 at a local dollar store and make up to 10 candle gifts, now that’s how to keep more money in your pocket.

Christmas baskets: purchase a large, plain, wicker basket and any type of Christmas fabric with a small print.  You will need to purchase 2 to 3 yards of fabric.  You will need fiber fill material and a 2 yard strip of elastic.  Place the fiber fill material in the bottom of the basket.  Sew the strip of elastic around the edge of the fabric.  Place the fabric in the basket so that the edge with the elastic sewn in it is covering the outer edge of the basket.

Christmas tray: purchase a plain wooden tray from a craft supplies store.  Decorate it with paints and premade Christmas designs.  (You can find all of these items at the craft supplies store.)  Another idea is to paint the tray a solid color, then place a photograph in the center of the tray.  Cover the photograph and the bottom of the tray with a thin sheet of glass.  (This will make it waterproof.)

Christmas ornaments:
you have many different options for homemade Christmas ornaments.  One of the easiest ways to make homemade ornaments is to buy the plain wooden, ceramic, or glass ornaments from a craft supplies store and then decorate them yourself.  You can also make ornaments from paper.  Another idea is to get plain glass ornaments and cover them with swirled paint or use decoupage techniques to cover them with decorative paper.

Photo ornaments: purchase scrap booking supplies and several sheets of card stock.  You can use premade scrapbooking picture frames and use the card stock as the backing for the ornaments.

Homemade Christmas gift ideas are a great way to let your creativity and thriftiness shine through during a very special season of the year.  Making your Christmas gifts by hand will ensure that your gift stands out. The only thing that limits you is your budget and your imagination.

Easter Crafts-How to Excite Kids with This Colorful Easter Egg Craft Fit For a Gift

This project is a simple way to personalize an Easter craft project that you and your child can do together.  Teachers would also benefit by having their students create this one of a kind personalized gift for their parents, grandparents, or anyone special to them. For this project an Easter gift for grandparents was created.

For this project you will first need to fill the bottom section of your plastic egg. We filled ours with a package of jelly beans, but wrapped candy, chocolates or other types of gift items, such as an Easter wash cloth or pot holder with a bag of candy or nuts would also do.  Once the inside of the egg is filled, put the clear egg top on.  Next, take two strands of fun fur yarn (purple & pink) long enough to wrap all the way around the center of the egg, leaving enough to tie a small bow at the top.  This will hold your egg tightly in place and add visual texture. Next, remove transparent word stickers and place them horizontally across the front of the egg top. Make sure to gently smooth out any air bubbles. Next, remove sticky gems from the package and stick above or near words to add dimension and sparkle. This project is quick, yet such an easy way for your child or student to personalize an Easter gift for those they love.

Supplies:

1 large clear plastic egg with removable top (we chose a lavender base with a clear top) 1 package of sticky gems (we used purple, lavender, pink & fuchsia with an emerald style) 1 package of transparent word stickers (we chose words about grandparents) 1 package of fun fur stripes yarn in pastel colors (we chose purple & pink) 1 package of jelly beans.
