Finding Cheap Crafts Online

Finding Cheap Crafts Online

Article by Brandon Alexander

Trying to decide the best place to purchase your crafting needs online? One thing to remember is there is not really a one stop shop type of place. What you want to do is find the best supplies at the lowest cost; this will help to improve your profit if you are selling your designs. Finding these deals may sometimes mean you will need to purchase different products from different places. Locating these special deals is pretty easy if you know where and when to search for them. Searching online for something like “cheap crafting supplies” may yield hundreds or even thousands of results. You may need to be more specific in your search in order to find what you are looking for. Ebay is a good place to start when trying to find the best deals online. Beware, though, of sellers who have a low feedback rating. This could indicate they do not handle their business well or could mean their product is far less than par. After you have scoured through Ebay you could try out another website know for its competitive prices, Oriental Trading. Oriental Trading has a huge selection of items from birthday crafting ideas, wedding needs, or three dimensional objects for your favorite scrapbook. Etsy.com also has a wide selection of items for crafters who make a lot of their items from complete scratch. If you do a search for “destash”, which means “to clear out leftover, un-needed supplies” in crafters terms, you will find deals for supplies that someone no longer needs and usually can get a great deal on them. Another similar website for crafting supplies at cheap prices is allcraftsupplies.com. This website keeps stock of leather craft and paper mache materials that are hard to find at a lot of local retailer stores. Speaking of local retail stores, there are quite a few of these as well that have their own web space. Michaels, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, and Jo-Ann Fabrics are just a few. Each having their own individual website allows them to run online specials as well as in-store specials with printed coupons or codes from the site. Sign up to their mailing lists and they will send you special deals that only members can qualify for through email. But before you dive in and start making orders at the various websites you found irresistible because of their great deals you should check out Ebates at ebates.com. This is a great resource to get additional coupons for certain online stores. The retailers have offered small percentage discounts to members of this discount site. What you will want to do now that you have determined some of the places to get cheap crafting supplies is to wait until the stores are running daily or weekly sales. Some of these sales will consist of coupons or a competitor’s coupon. And do not forget about the sales that come at the end of the normal crafting “season”. These can sometimes provide up to 80% selected items.

Paper chains – these are so simple to make but look great strewn across the ceiling, or smaller versions can be placed on the tree. Simply take sheets of coloured paper (or plain that the children can decorate themselves) and cut into even size strips. Take a strip and curl the ends round till they meet, taping them together. Take the next strip and thread it through the first, fastening in the same way. Continue this process until you have chain of the desired length.

Snowmen – in the absence of real snow cotton wool is great for making snowmen. Stick two different sized balls together, smallest on top and wait to dry. Cut a hat shaped piece of card and colour in, then stick to snowman’s head. Tie a piece of ribbon or some strands of wool round the neck as a scarf. Draw a face with black marker pen. They can be placed around the house, or stick some cotton to the hat and hang on the tree.

Cards – if you have cards left over from the previous year use these, or find seasonal pictures in magazines. Get some plain card and fold in half as blank cards. Let the children select pictures and stick them on, accessorising with glitter, cotton wool and perhaps some Christmassy stickers.

Stockings – for older children. Buy some coloured felt, red or green is best and cut into stocking shapes. Sew them together with a contrasting coloured wool, leaving the top open. Decorate with glitter and ribbons, which can be stuck or sewn on.

Festive paperweights – collect stones or pebbles form the beach or garden. These can be painted by the children and decorated with glitter and Christmas designs, such as trees, snowflakes or reindeer. All ow to dry and then varnish to finish.

Would you pay to have me teach your kids arts and crafts?

Question by riartfineimages: Would you pay to have me teach your kids arts and crafts?
I’m an artist and have a lot of experience working with children and people with developmental disabilities. I would love to start a program where I would come to people’s homes and show kids, adults, whoever is interested in arts and crafts projects.

Painting, stenciling, drawing, assemblage, sculpture, beading. I have a lot of ideas which aren’t limited to just children.

Basically I need some feedback before I venture into this idea.

Answer by Laura
I love crafts and always am looking for new ideas. But, I have to say, I wouldn’t want you to come to my home to teach me or my kids. I’d much rather go to a well-equipped studio or classroom to learn. That way I won’t make a mess in my home, I don’t have to have room dedicated to learning a new craft, I don’t have to invest in materials before I’m sure I want to pursue it. I’m sure you’re good with kids and adults, but I don’t think the idea works for a lot of people.
